These were the days before air-conditioning, car refrigerators and satellite phones. Surveyors would have to camp in the bush for weeks and needed to be very resourceful when faced with mechanical problems, wild animals or accidents. Earl tells it like it was – with no fluff that is what makes this book so interesting and very readable.
